Hi everyone! This is Laure Locascio with Lisual Art LLC.
The 2026 Lisual Art Outdoor Bench Seat and Planter Box

I wanted to build a 17" height slatted bench seat with a planter box for a loyal customer that could withstand the outdoor Houston environment.
The box was designed to hold a flowerpot or dirt for flowers with a liner inside and the bench seat also needed an area under the seat to hold gardening items or those Amazon packages.
The only limit was the size of 42" length total.
I used pocket holes to hide all the joints on treated solid pine, and repurposed cedar boards.

Slats were installed inside the planter box to allow for the pot support or dirt and spaced for drainage and aeration.

The bench seat construction includes an easily removable design to allow for easy cleaning, sweeping or moving of the seat and planter box.
The most expensive part of the project was the priming and paint. Application of three coats of primer sealer was needed, and the paint was smoke gray protective enamel gloss.

The entire project used two quarts.
The planter box and seat required 128 outdoor exterior wood screws.
I also added furniture feet bumpers to lift the legs off the ground during rain.

This was a fun project although it took about three weeks to complete due to our fluctuating weather, cold, wind, rain and sleet affecting drying time.
The complete project cost $220.
